Lamdeinu is an institute for adult Jewish learning, where students bond over Torah study in a warm and welcoming environment. We seek to bring greater meaning to our daily lives through serious and thoughtful Jewish textual study.  Lamdeinu offers interactive beit midrash style learning, as well as lecture presentations. Our broad range of topics include Talmud, Tanakh, parshanut, halakhah, and Jewish history and philosophy.

Lamdeinu also proudly offers experiential programming to complement our traditional learning. For example, on Yom Ha’Atzamaut, over 100 women of all ages join in Tefillah, followed by singing, dancing and Israeli treats.

This year, we are thrilled to recognize the unparalleled dedication of two outstanding women.  Mrs. Mollie Fisch and Rebbetzin Shira Schiowitz have been among Lamdeinu’s most enthusiastic supporters since its inception. They have offered warm guidance, insightful advice and inspiring divrei Torah.  We are so excited to be honoring these deserving women.

Mollie Fisch is a lifelong learner who is constantly involved in Torah study. An avid Lamdeinu student, Mollie is particularly devoted to Dean Rachel Friedman’s Parshanut class.  She also co-leads the Shabbat Women’s Learning group and has been a mentor for Partners in Torah for over 10 years.  Mollie studied Hebrew and Education at Gratz College, and Pharmacy at Temple University in Philadelphia.  Professionally, she was a staff pharmacist in Holy Name Hospital, eventually becoming Director of International Labeling at Schering Plough Corporation (now Merck).  Since retiring, Mollie has served as a member of the Project S.A.R.A.H. Consortium, and is a Reading Buddy at Whittier School.  At Congregation Beth Aaron, which she and her late husband Rabbi Stanley Fisch helped to found, Mollie advocates for Israel through her involvement with NORPAC.  Mollie is thrilled to have her children, Mindy Mellul and Dr. Shalom and Susan Fisch , and grandchildren Esti Mellul, and  Nachum, Chana and Miriam Fisch living right here in town, affording them a continual opportunity to celebrate, daven, study, and grow together.

Shira Schiowitz has been a dedicated and dynamic high school Judaic studies teacher for many years.  Currently, she teaches at SAR High School in Riverdale, where she also serves as a mentor for new educators.  Shira has taught Tanakh at Ma’ayanot High School where she chaired the Tanakh department.  She served as Assistant Dean in Lamdeinu’s first year and worked to plan and manage Lamdeinu’s opening.  Shira returned to teach at Lamdeinu this past summer and does so whenever her schedule permits.  Shira is the beloved”Rebbetzin” of the Shaare Tefillah community, where she and her husband Rabbi Kenny Schiowitz, have served for the past 14 years.  Shira is also a member of the board of Yeshivat Ben Porat Yosef.  She attended Stern College for Women and earned her Masters in Bible at the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Yeshiva University.  The Schiowitz’ are the proud parents of seven wonderful children.

We look forward to celebrating with you at Lamdeinu’s Third Annual Breakfast on Sunday morning December 3.  Please find our scroll of honor form below.
